Original Ovoid
001-OO-01 - 2/1/04
This is the first clock produced under the name, Hawley Clockworks. I was exploring how to incorporate the ovoid shape into a classical ordering system of capital, column, and base.
Solid brass rods refer to both the flutes of a column and the pendulum wires in an ornate grandfather clock. Figured woods in the base mimic the cabinetry of antique clocks, while the use of precious metal and simple geometric forms reflect my affection for Art Deco. The ovoid is very fine-grained cottonwood. Curly maple and curly walnut are used in the base.
The clock originally came in a birch plywood box with walnut inlays.
