2016
…a client asked me if I could make a Nimbus 2000 to give to her niece as a graduation present. It took a bit of research and a lot of interpolation to figure out what it actually looked like. (It appeared to vary a little from movie to movie, and I could only find a few mentions of the material components in the books).
The handle is mahogany, varnished with pure tung oil. The logo is gold paint. I tried many different “thatchy” materials for the bristles, and settled on twigs from a wild cherry tree for their color and shape.
All the fittings are solid brass. (As you might guess, you can’t get a flying broom footrest at your local big-box store)
There is a thin steel rod hidden in the bristles that connects to the base in such a way to be a little “flexible.” This allows the broom to “waver” a little when you touch it and appear to be levitating.
